MAPFRE celebrates 14 years in the FTSE4Good sustainability index

It´s one of the leading international barometers for measuring the performance of companies in terms of sustainability, and which recognizes the company’s excellence in relation to environmental, social and corporate governance practices.

For the fourteenth consecutive year, MAPFRE is once again a part of the Financial Times and Stock Exchange (FTSE) 4Good, one of the leading international barometers for measuring the performance of companies in terms of sustainability, and which recognizes the company’s excellence in relation to environmental, social and corporate governance practices.

The companies included in this index, designed by the FTSE Russell group, meet very demanding, fully transparent and public criteria relating to good sustainability practices, in areas such as environmental sustainability—in particular the fight against climate change—good stakeholder relationships, and the support of and respect for universal human rights.

The index is aimed at investors around the world who seek not only to ensure profitability, but also to ensure that the companies they invest in are reliable. It also takes governance aspects into account such as risk management or fiscal transparency.

A better present and future

This new milestone is a testament to MAPFRE’s 86 years of work underpinned by a strong commitment to people and the planet and contribution to the development of the social and corporate structures of the countries in which it operates, beyond the excellence and profitability of its business.
In 2019, the Group approved the Sustainability Plan 2019–2021, in which it develops this commitment in a clear way based on three dimensions—environmental, social and governance—and on a business strategy centered around responsible investment policies and an approach to risk selection based on the low-carbon economy.

Other indices

In 2019, MAPFRE was listed in the H&K Responsible Investment Brand Index (RIBI), which comprises European firms in the industry that are most committed to Socially Responsible Investment, and since 2018, it has been listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, one of the leading international barometers for measuring the performance of companies in terms of sustainability and CSR. MAPFRE has also been included in ‘The Sustainability Yearbook 2020,’ which is based on an economic, environmental and social assessment of the world’s largest companies.
It has recently been included in the Euronext Vigeo Europe 120 index, the Euronext Vigeo Eurozone 120 index and Ethibel Sustainability Index (ESI) Excellence Europe.
